Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Marquez talks about her takeaways she learned from being a marine reservist.
Many were shocked after Marquez announced that she will be entering military, considering that she is a former beauty queen that bagged the first ever Reina Hispanoamericana title of the country.
According to Marquez, it was the influence of her friends who have a huge passion of serving others that helped her made the choice.
From being prim and proper and classy lady on stage, Marquez learned how to shake away all those glamour during her training under the Philippine Naval Reserve Command.
In her interview with Summit Videos, she shared, “Na-strip down talaga as in wala talaga walang ayos-ayos and no one cared…Kahit mukha ka nang dugyot!”
Recalling the day she knew she wanted to be part of the marines, Marquez said, “Siguro nag-seal ng deal is noong height ng pandemic. I did kasi a fundraiser with my sister, yung isang friend ko si Sgt. [Jaimie] Sarmiento, she was willing to help. She’s also a reservist under the marines.
“They were there they picked everything up, sila ang nag-deliver for me and for me parang, para lang talaga makatulong para maabot yung tulong doon sa mga taong nangangailangan.”
Added her, “I wanna be part of that culture…”
Marquez enlisted in February 2020; joined the Basic Citizen Military Course (BCMC) in August; and was hailed as top cadet of Class 01-2020 and top 1 in Physical Fitness (Women’s category) last November.
“I am sharing this personal moment with you all hoping it can be a motivation & inspiration not only to Filipino women but to all Filipinos to not be afraid of their weaknesses and to pursue their passions in life. Do know that I am not not here to impress you, I am here to make an impact – WE are here to make an Impact.” she wrote on her Instagram account.
